We are delighted to announce the next iteration of EventON version 4.8 with several design and feature improvements from previous version. However this update address lot of know minor issue resolutions. Here are some of the highlights from the new version update.

Admin Side

Event Edit date picker with 2 months and better UI look.

Custom Meta Fields are now moved into lightbox view for distraction free content creation.

Optional Image for Custom Meta Fields

This will allow you to create custom meta field data for events along with images that goes with the content to provide clear messages.

EventTop text color settings

EventTop text color for colorful eventtop can now be set in various settings to your liking – from auto detect, custom color, or same color as regular eventtop text.

EventON Settings are now saved via AJAX.

EventON Language text strings are also saved via AJAX. – This will help pass on text strings faster and correctly.

Front End Calendar

EventTop event featured images are bigger now. Event tags on eventtop also have darker color text making them easier to read.

Location Contacts are now under location address on the eventcard for easier access to location contact information for visitors.

Related events box in eventcard now has a more compact design.

Apart from this we have addressed various known issues from previous version. Here are all the issue we were able to resolve in version 4.8:

New Schedule View Calendar

Introducing in EventON 4.0 is the new Schedule View. This is part of the EventON main Plugin and no paid addons are needed for this.

EventCard Designer

We are making our eventCard fields editor better with an all new EventCard Designer. You can now choose from 5 different row styles to include event data fields. New Designer allow you to colorize each event data field to make that part of the event data stands out.

View Switcher (Beta)

We are also introducing a new calendar view switcher. You can enable this by adding shortcode view_switcher=’yes’ into calendar shortcode. The basic eventON will have List, Tile, and Schedule and different views. With DailyView, WeeklyView and FullCal addons you can add more views into this.

Show Only Certain Parts of Events

Using single event shortcode in Shortcode Generator, you can now show only certain parts of the event as a data box anywhere you want.

Hide Various EventTop Data

You can now hide various eventtop data fields direct via shortcode, as need basis.

Event Attendance Mode

In align with the Schema data for EventAttendanceMode, we have now added this as part of event edit options.

We are changing default EventTop Style

Default eventtop style is now colorful event boxes with gap between events (eventtop_style=’2′). You can switch to the legacy clean eventtop style by using shortcode eventtop_style=’0′.

Refreshed Related Events

We have updated the layout design of the related events to make them look more appealing and easy to inform the visitor.

Tiles Design Refreshed

We also updated the tile_style=’1′ – tiles view with event details below, layout to look cooler than before in align with rest of the calendar styles.

Live Now Calendar Updated Design

We have also updated the Live Now Calendar layout design for a cleaner look.

Other Various Design Updates

EventON 4.0 include various other design element updates. Shortcode generator, EventON Settings page and Cancelled events display style. Overall general calendar designs have been updated. We are using CSS FLEX styles in most of the design.

WP Query Method

We are introducing a new WP Query method options in eventON settings.

Querying options are applied based on the date event post was published, NOT event date. This may help some users speed up calendar loading time.

Other Positive Changes

We have updated the handlebar.js library to version 4.7.7.

We have added a new event filter, Event Status. — So users can filter events by the status of the such as Scheduled, Moved Online etc.

We also added Virtual events filter, so users can filter calendar events to show only virtual events. This can also be enabled via eventON settings > Sorting and Filtering

We also added a new shortcode hide_cancels=’yes’ this will hide all the cancelled events from showing in the calendar.

You can also hide eventTop various tags from EventON Settings > EventTop > Select below EventTop tags to HIDE

Generate event location coordinates using wp_remote_get() request instead of previous curl which caused issues for many. We have also added an ajax button on location forms to generate coordinates right on the spot using a typed address.

New Features with Jitsi

With jitsi fully integrated to allow live videos to be played direct from the event page, you can now allow direct wait room type feature, directly on the event instead a guest leaving to zoom. Jitsi allows eventON to add wait for moderator. You can assign a moderator when you create an event.

Just like with zoom, jitsi on eventON offer amazing features like, allow viewers to raise hand, enable invite others, switch to fullscreen, share desktop etc. All of these are features that are directly part of jitsi that we are able to control and offer via eventON.

Virtual Plus Addon

Along with eventON 3.1 we also introduced a new Virtual Plus addon which extends the virtual features to even more extensive level and basically ties all the other addons for closer virtual experience.

How to Do Paid Virtual Events

In order to do paid virtual events, you will need tickets addon – which allows users to purchase tickets to events. Once you install tickets addon you can set the option in event edit so that a user will have to purchase a ticket before he can see the virtual event information. This restricting for virtual event access works with all the supported virtual event methods. With Jitsi, instead of virtual event access info, the live video will load direct into the event page.

Pre-event Content with Virtual Plus

Virtual Plus addon adds pre-event content. This can also be conditioned to show only after a user has purchased tickets. Pre-event content is a great place to share slides or PDF files or youtube videos that can be enjoyed by viewer before the event take place.

After Event Content

After event content is supported in main eventON plugin and this can also be conditioned to show only if customer has purchased a ticket. You can set a time to how long since the end of the event to show these info. After event content is a great way to share take home information with viewers.

Virtual Events Bundle for More

Gathering several addons, we made a virtual events bundle and with the addons in here you can create event more smooth virtual event experience.

Countdown Addon – will offer pre-event countdown timer right on virtual event information section and when timer runs out auto refresh with virtual event information.

Reviewer Addon – will offer leave a review button right after the event is completed.

ActionUser Addon – to support front-end event submission and front end event manager for vendors and other parties to manage virtual events.

We really enjoyed creating a more connected virtual event experience with eventON and we hope you will enjoy it as well. We are continuing our creative efforts to make events happen in our new world norm.

BEFORE UPDATE

Backup! very important you backup database and settings, in case something unexpected happens and you have a way to resort back to old versions. If possible install the updates on a clone/staging version of your website before installing the updates on live site.

ADDONS

The new update to eventON effects several eventON addons and they all will receive updates. So when you update to eventON 2.8 make sure to update the necessary addons as well for everything to work correctly. As we fixed compatibility for eventON with addons, we have also improved the design and features of the addons eg. weeklyview and fullcal

MAJOR CHANGES

EventON 2.8 we have made several code changes with the future vision to load events faster and allow for AJAX based JSON calendar load system for real time calendar interactions in the future. The biggest change is calendar events are now loaded via AJAX when page first load.

Basic events list is been improved and now can be sorted and filtered just like with Events Lists ext. addon. We have also improved the event filter system. The past future events filter can now be used to load events from either past or future and can be filtered afterwards on the frontend.

Invitees for RSVP

Invitees only RSVP was a feature that was missing in the RSVP addon and was a feature we wanted to add badly over some time now, and it is here.

With this addon, you can create your own guest list and invite only those you want to see at the event. Guests not invited to event, wont be able to RSVP to the event. You gotta be invited for the event to attend! And the backend Invitee manager make it easy to create new invitees, invite them and communicate with invitees via public or private messages.

Waitlist for RSVP

Ah, the feature lot of you have been asking for, for RSVP addon – the waitlist.

With this addon, once the event capacity is filled, guests can add themselves to waitlist with the potential of getting a space. Once an attending guest decide to not attend any more, them the waitlist guests get chance to attend the event.

Future Plans

Yes, we already got great future ideas for improvement of this addon. One such idea is, admin to add extra space to an event at some point before event (when the event capacity is passed and waitlist is packed) and then those extra spaces will be offered to waitlist guests first.

First of all my apologies for not forewarning you guys about the server migration. It was something I wanted to do for quite sometime, but kept pushing back. And it just came to a point we just had to pull the trigger and get it done. We greatly appreciate your patient through this process, I saw few people had issues and then they saw our twitter on the server migration news and understood the circumstances.

Anyways we are now completely moved to a new and faster server, and you probably have already noticed increase in loading speed on our helpdesk and myeventon.com main site.

Use Stripe to buy Addons

With new sevres, we also added SSL to all our sites now. With that we are now using Stripe as an alternative payment method to Paypal to accept payments for eventON addons. Some folks from Turkey and Pakistan had issues using Paypal in the past, and this should help now. So far we are seeing about 50% of the customers choosing to use Stripe instead of Paypal. We are also finding out Stripe transaction fees are slightly cheaper compared to Paypal.

Sync Addon with Facebook Events

There was lot of involvement from our wonderful EventON folks at helpdesk ticket https://helpdesk.ashanjay.com/ticket/eventon-wasnt-syncing-facebook-events-i-updated-and-lost-settings-and-every-event-i-had-previously-still-not-syncing/ — about the Sync addon’s facebook event import feature.

While back, with the sudden change in privacy policy and restrictions on facebook event imports, we really started to ask ourselves, is this the game we want to be in — where we are at the mercy of these 3rd party APIs to perform tasks that may work today but not tomorrow.

With recent developments to facebook event import restrictions it seems apparent they are going to really lock down on event imports. Going forward its not something we want to spend a lot of our time on and expect someday it will open up. Because we want to spend our time on developing better and important features for eventON that will empower our users to do more things and have an ease of mind.

Facebook is making changes in their platform and they will fix these issues hopefully soon.

For the moment Sync addon has been pulled off our store. And we are still testing for possible work around to get facebook events for our customers who own Sync addon, despite the facebook changes in API. If we have an update on this and a fix, we will send out a tweet via @myeventon. But for the moment Sync addon facebook fetching remains as “not able to fetch”.

We are so happy to release our newest update to eventON – a much needed update that takes eventon to the next level.

We are switching to a new primary font for eventon – Roboto. Which is a more balanced font than our old Oswald font. However oswald is still supported and can be switched to in appearance settings.

This new version lays foundation for lot of backend improvements we are hoping to implement over the coming months into our addons that involves improving speed.

We have also fixed multiple minor issues and updated compatibility with PHP 7.1

Another cool thing we have added is called Multi Data Types. This will allow you to create various data that can be assigned to an event and showcase them on a one to many type relationship. An example of possibility with this new feature is a sponsor section.

We are very excited to move eventon forward.

ActionUser Plus

Lot of people have been asking us for ways to charge users for submitting events. We are sorry we took this long, but the wait is over we now have a new addon for actionUser that will allow you to use your existing ActionUser addon and start charging users for submitting events.

This is also powered by woocommerce ecommerce solution which will handle the checkout process and collecting money. Because it is powered by woocommerce you can use any payment gateway supported by woocommerce to accept payments.

ActionUser Plus, allow you to set price per event submission, restrict a user to buy one submission, set a capacity for maximum number of submissions you want users to submit. ActionUser Plus also hooks into Event Manager where the users can manage their submitted events.

As with all our addons we are definitely going to be improving this in the coming updates based on our customer reviews and feature requests they might like to see in this addon.

Slider Addon

Slider addon had some minor issues and we didnt want users to keep buying the addon with issues so we pulled it off the shop. And we had time to look really close at the issues and make it better again!

We added an all new Mini Carousel type slider of events. All the event slides can be configured to open as lightbox, open in single event page or do nothing.

The Multi Slider is also made to function better now with infinite loops on slides that can run on auto with custom pause times between slide moves.

We did some great improvements for actionUser and lot of old bugs resolved. ActionUser can now support fields for RSVP and ticket addons and we are hoping to improve on this in the future with the pluggable hooks that are now in place.

RSVP Addon

Lots of past bugs have been fixed in RSVP addon. Now the RSVP form can support upto 5 additional custom fields. You can hook into this using below code to increase this to even more custom fields. And all these fields are compatible all across the entire addon including CSV download.

Another cool feature is now you can get a direct URL to an eventpage (created using single events addon) that have name parameters and those will prefill the RSVP form auto matically.

We have also added EventTop tags for when the event is closed or there are no spaces left. This can be turned off from RSVP settings > EventTop Data for RSVP.
