BEFORE UPDATE

Backup! very important you backup database and settings, in case something unexpected happens and you have a way to resort back to old versions. If possible install the updates on a clone/staging version of your website before installing the updates on live site.

ADDONS

The new update to eventON effects several eventON addons and they all will receive updates. So when you update to eventON 2.8 make sure to update the necessary addons as well for everything to work correctly. As we fixed compatibility for eventON with addons, we have also improved the design and features of the addons eg. weeklyview and fullcal

MAJOR CHANGES

EventON 2.8 we have made several code changes with the future vision to load events faster and allow for AJAX based JSON calendar load system for real time calendar interactions in the future. The biggest change is calendar events are now loaded via AJAX when page first load.

Basic events list is been improved and now can be sorted and filtered just like with Events Lists ext. addon. We have also improved the event filter system. The past future events filter can now be used to load events from either past or future and can be filtered afterwards on the frontend.

Whats new with 2.6.6

Couple of important changes were the styles for event edit page. We had users having issues with darker meta box layout with darker font making it harder to read. So we have decided to change event edit meta box to a lighter design.

Another big change we made in version 2.6.6 is the URL structure for repeating events. We used the URL structure of ../?ri=3&l=L2 which works great but was causing issues for customers with their Google SEO campaigns. So we are switching to a SEO friendly structure. Now these repeat values are passed in the URL as …/var/ri-3.l-L2

License Term Changes

EventON has been growing in customer base at a very healthy rate year after year since it’s inception. We greatly appreciate the support from our amazing customers that helped us push eventON to new levels every day.

However, with this growth comes other challenges such as managing the bigger customer base while still providing the best customer service we possibly can. And we also want to put lot of time towards development of EventON to add new features to stay innovative to offer the best calendar experience for our customers. The time towards research and development on new features has become challenging when we have to spend lot of time on support for the growing customer base.

To overcome these challenges while still being able to drive EventON forward, we have decided to switch only our unlimited addon license terms to 1 year license subscriptions. However EventON main plugin will continue to be an unlimited license. Most importantly, the customers who have already purchased EventON addons under unlimited updates and support license terms, will continue to receive unlimited services from us. From here on, when you purchase EventON addons under 1 year license terms, that will be subject to yearly updates and support going forward. The new subscription license can be cancelled from auto renewal any time from myEventON My Account. More information about the new license terms can be found in our terms.

I believe this will help us tremendously to focus our efforts on a greater level to grow EventON with new and innovative features and serve more customers with their needs than ever before while providing them with an excellent service first hand.

What’s new in 2.6

Event Tiles

2.6 have a lot of fixes for eventon that were nagging users and we took the time to address those issues. The biggest addition is the tiles layout with image and event details under the tile box.

Loader Bar

Calendar load bar is now cooler than ever before with knight-ride KITT like animated loading bar!

Location and organizer are now supported officially via shortcode generator for filtering events. Apart from this there are several code improvements and additions that have been done in 2.6 to support speed improvement to calendar and for future extensions.

ActionUser 2.1

Event submission form is now generated using AJAX and so is the eventmanager, which use AJAX to load the form into page — adding a much needed improvements to user experience. This update also have several other bug fixed as well.

RSVP 2.5.13

This update to RSVP have lot of bugs addressed, there is not any major improvements. One of the biggest improvement is download attendees CSV file is now open to pluggable functions to add other RSVP fields into CSV file. But we are hoping to make improvements to RSVP in the coming months.

Tickets 1.6

We have re-designed the successfully added to cart message with a more subtle design. Tickets can now show the next available event with tickets on the eventCard (for repeating events with ticket sales) You can also set your custom WC ticket product title name structure from settings. This was a setback for several of our customers in the past, not being able to customize the ticket product title — now you can set it to always use same structure.

Apart from this there are several actionUser integration updates and bug fixes comes with tickets 1.6

What’s Next?

We are so glad to have gotten this update out of the door, as I know several of you guys were waiting for the updates. We have done hours and hours of testing on these updates and really hope we covered all the bugs.

Now that these updates are out of the way, we are going to be working on several new and amazing addons that we were holding off on during these updates. To give a sneak peek into what we are working on: We are going to expand our reach into ticket sales side of things for eventON and really going to push for advanced ticket sales related features. ActionUser side of things will also be getting several new features that will really help our customers generate revenue using eventON.

Going forward we really want to help you — our eventon customer — automate your day-to-day eventON operations (as much as possible) and help you generate revenue using eventON in ways that is appreciative by both you and your customers.

We are so happy to release our newest update to eventON – a much needed update that takes eventon to the next level.

We are switching to a new primary font for eventon – Roboto. Which is a more balanced font than our old Oswald font. However oswald is still supported and can be switched to in appearance settings.

This new version lays foundation for lot of backend improvements we are hoping to implement over the coming months into our addons that involves improving speed.

We have also fixed multiple minor issues and updated compatibility with PHP 7.1

Another cool thing we have added is called Multi Data Types. This will allow you to create various data that can be assigned to an event and showcase them on a one to many type relationship. An example of possibility with this new feature is a sponsor section.

We are very excited to move eventon forward.

ActionUser Plus

Lot of people have been asking us for ways to charge users for submitting events. We are sorry we took this long, but the wait is over we now have a new addon for actionUser that will allow you to use your existing ActionUser addon and start charging users for submitting events.

This is also powered by woocommerce ecommerce solution which will handle the checkout process and collecting money. Because it is powered by woocommerce you can use any payment gateway supported by woocommerce to accept payments.

ActionUser Plus, allow you to set price per event submission, restrict a user to buy one submission, set a capacity for maximum number of submissions you want users to submit. ActionUser Plus also hooks into Event Manager where the users can manage their submitted events.

As with all our addons we are definitely going to be improving this in the coming updates based on our customer reviews and feature requests they might like to see in this addon.

Slider Addon

Slider addon had some minor issues and we didnt want users to keep buying the addon with issues so we pulled it off the shop. And we had time to look really close at the issues and make it better again!

We added an all new Mini Carousel type slider of events. All the event slides can be configured to open as lightbox, open in single event page or do nothing.

The Multi Slider is also made to function better now with infinite loops on slides that can run on auto with custom pause times between slide moves.

One of the biggest differences is that we have changed the way location and organizer taxonomy meta data is saved. We have now switching to one wordpress option as oppose to creating individual option for each taxonomy. Once you update to new version your existing location and organizer taxonomy data should automatically convert into to new system during the update process.

So this change effects several addons, and we have already released an updates to those effected addons. Below are the addons effected by the change to location and oragnizer taxonomies: CSV Impoter, ICS Impoter, Tickets, & Lists & Items addon. Design Direction

With the latest eventON update v2.4.5 we started making minor UI improvements and finer changes to our calendar design. We want to keep our calendar design upto date with current design trends. More notably the 5px rounded corners is one of the more prominent changes we have done to calendar that made a considerable appeal improvement for calendar.

Jump Months

Following that design direction we have improved the jump months section with design wise and minor functionality improvements as well.

Addon Updates

We have been releasing lot of addon updates in recent times addressing issues with them. We are hoping to continue this and get to issues that are identified by customers as soon as possible to provide the full experience with the addon you guys purchase.

Weekly View Addon

Following this new design direction we are also re-introducing the weeklyview addon. Smooth design for this addon is matched with its better functionality. Users are now able to navigate through weeks continuously.

Event API

Lot of eventON customers were looking for a way to show their calendar on an external website, and we have gotten a lot of requests for this. Event API addon is the perfect solution for this.

With this you can drop a javascript code snippet on any external website – it can be wordpress or just HTML- and will show the eventON calendar with all the styles and interactions. This addon also supports JSON URL to fetch all upcoming event data that can be used to feed other 3rd party software or mobile apps. Overall its a very powerful solution for advanced developer and the day to day average use to show eventON calendar on an outside website without much coding skills.

Slider

Slider addon is one of our cleanly integrated addons that brings a new perspective of events – as a slider view. This addon – mainly controlled and setup via shortcode generator – gives you numerous customization options and layout options.

You can show upcoming events or past events in the slider and set how many events you want to show regardless of month restrictions.  It can also be filtered with event_type category values to show only certain events as slides.

Event Lists & Items

Lists and items addon was something that was missing in our arsenal of addons. With this addon you can list all category items for all 5 event types, locations, and organizers. Once someone click those items it will slide all events for that category type. This is also optional as you can set it not to load events and use this as just for displaying a list of category items.

The item version of the addon is also very useful for displaying for example organizers and you want to drop a box for certain organizer like below.

Once a user click on this item box it will slide all the events organized by Andy the trainer. Its a really neat solution that has so many practical uses.

So these are the 3 latest addons that we have added to eventON in the past 2 months and there are lot of other great ideas passed on to us by our customers and users that we are hoping to implement in the coming months.

Our old support forum was running on bbpress with the help of several other 3rd party plugins and after an auto update to wordpress we had lots of issues with these 3rd party plugins throwing error after error. It was causing a headache so I decided to create our own support platform that we will have full control over functionality and compatibility with WordPress.

So with my greatest delight, I introduce to you the helpdesk.ashanjay.com powered by our own software called Suppota Now mind you, this is in beta version. I wanted to get this out as fast as I can so our customers could start getting support from us.

We are still working on Suppota to make it better and going to be adding bunch of cool features in the long run which are beneficial to us as Admin agents and to customers. If you like our supporting platform — suppota, we are planning to retail this in the future!
