New Addon: Sync facebook & google calendar events

Published on: May 26,2015

sy_1.0

This is our newest addon for eventON. Lot of you have been asking for this for a long time and I am happy make the announcement today for our Sync addon for eventon. This addon will fetch events from facebook and google calendar and import them to eventON calendar and will allow you to sync those events from facebook after initial import.

This addon relies on API access for both third party events in a secure way. At the moment the addon will pull initial data from events such as time, name, location and link to original event. For facebook events has the capability to pull event image or cover image and use that as featured event image in eventON.

This looks very promising, but from what I’m reading, I’m not sure if it’s actually a “sync” is it?

Doesn’t “synchronise” mean to make two things the same (i.e. information updates in both directions)
This looks like it’s download only from FB and Google at the moment.
It’d be amazing if you were able to create FB and Google events from the existing ones you had in an EventOn calendar.

Still excellent work though and lovely to see EventOn is growing all the time – especially to suit customer requests.
Thank you very much for all your hard work!

Nick, you are correct, it is one direction and not bi-directional at the moment. But the ability to post to facebook and google are something that is in our to-dos for this addon in future versions 🙂

      1. Nick says:

        Thanks Ashan,
This is a great start, I think when it’s two way it’ll truly be a powerful and useful addition to EventOn.
I’m sure both Facebook and Google’s code make this a challenging development to say the least.

Look forward to seeing you this one eventually ticked off the to-do list then it’ll be a great addition to may of my clients’ web sites.

          Hi,
Just wondered if there were any plans to update this yet please, it’s been 10 months, and I can see you’ve been very busy with other things, but was really hoping that the critical second half of the sync would be coming along soon to make this plugin really valuable?

          1. Ashan Jay says:

You know we are really trying to push it but we have to do bug fixes for our popular addons first. But really appreciate your patient on this one.

    2. Nick says:

Hey Ashan, hope you’re well and have not been totally tied up in big fixes over the past 18 months 🙂
So is there any progress on turning this into a sync rather than a copy since it was launched back in May 2015 please?
That was rather a long time ago 🙂

      1. Ashan Jay says:

Well, sorry to disappoint you, unfortunately sending events to facebook and google is rather complicated that expected so I dont think we will be adding that part anytime soon. However, sync addon is not able to sync already fetched events on automatic schedule 🙂

  2. gatelli says:

    Maybe I’ll purchase if it’s bi-directional. 45USD for 1 way sync is a bit expensive don’t you think ?

    1. Ashan Jay says:

I am sorry you feel this way but you would not say this if you were the one who had to deal with all the facebook and google code to get this to work.

      1. gatelli says:

Copied that ! I’m waiting for the second arrow in your logo is working for the sync back and maybe I’ll purchase it 😉

  3. Simon says:

can’t get it to load any events into the calendar from google. API ID correct and calendar ID correct. Frustrated as I have spent $45 on this and without it, I would not be using eventon as I have everything in google calendar. Cannot for the life of me see what I’m missing. Calendar loads on my page, but is completely empty of events.

    1. Ashan Jay says:

I am sorry to hear this please send us a ticket in support forum and we can help. https://support.ashanjay.com/forum/eventon/

    2. Ashan Jay says:

Also make sure in google calendar > calendar settings are set to share in public because if not it will not pull any events.

      1. Brett says:

I also cannot get google to load events — Same issue Simon is having.

        1. Ashan Jay says:

make sure you have updated to latest version of sync addon and that your server is running PHP 5.4 up and google calendar is shared publicaly.

  4. publimedia says:

I´m using the events calendar pro with facebook importer.
I import events from +/- 540 fanpages. Import with images, descriptions and all information.
    But i have some problems.

    My question is:
Can i do exactly with your plugin and sync addon?

  5. lmelokazarao says:

Can I use the sync along with the Action User?
Because my site is a social network, has multiple users, I am implementing a function register area and wanted each logged-in user could register your event through a form and also through facebook import. It’s possible?

    1. Ashan Jay says:

I think i replied to you in twitter, but yea the answer is not at the moment

  6. gatelli says:

    Hi
Is it syncing attending with RSVP ADDON too ?

  7. Marcio says:

    Please

    Help me

    my Sync Event

Event ID: 1596675093917719 does not have proper permission for fetching data.

  8. Bryan says:

Does this addon import the ticket link and does it import single events from personal pages.

    1. Ashan Jay says:

It does not import that information.

  9. tpapandrianos says:

    Hello

is Sync facebook & google calendar events avaiable for purchase ? I can’t find it in your store

    1. Ashan Jay says:

We have pulled it off to do some major re-working on it.

      1. tpapandrianos says:

        ok, its under maintenance .
i am interesting for Sync facebook & google calendar and EventOn.

  10. Drew says:

Yeah, I’m interested in adding this too.

Man, I have a client and I don’t even care about the two-way thing. Just letting them use Facebook to create events and completely not even touch the WP dashboard would be okay with both me and them.

They know how to post an event.

Posting events to WP has proven to be sloppy — lots of duplicates, duplicate locations and event details, shallow content, extra images uploaded for no reason, large images, images that are copyrighted and pulled off Google somewhere… they do all that.

This sync—even the one-way thing—would be awesome. They’d never have to deal with any of that again.

    Well maybe.

Ashan … know how the plugin “remembers” event coordinator details? Is there some way to clean all that up? We have anywhere from 2 to 5 “sort-of-matching” details in our event coordinator section.

    1. Ashan Jay says:

Hello Drew, We are nearing the final stages of sync addon it will not have the 2 way sync but will do fetching. And running tests these days hoping for a May end release. 🙂 You would need to make a custom PHP code to get rid of duplicated my friend 🙂

  11. james says:

I just bought Sync and after installing all I am getting is a messga “You need PHP version 5.4 or higher for this EventON Sync to work properly.” I have gone to my server and checked, which shows me using 5.6. I even changed to 5.4 and 5.5 with no fix. Can you help me with this, or refund me for this plugin as it does not work?

    1. Ashan Jay says:

please send us a ticket via helpdesk as this is not where support questions should be posted. And we can help you resort this out.
